Fear is never conquered and rarely is it realized — almost always it’s something worse or merely benign. All you can do is learn to tolerate it. You can’t shut it up but you don’t have to listen. Courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to endure one’s own internal torment.

Peace is only found when the search is given up. Perhaps better said: You won’t ever find what you’re looking for. But you’ll find everything else once you give up the search.

There is no way to prove that your work is good. That it matters. Will endure. Any assertion can be corroded by doubt. An act of genius could turn out to have been that of a fool.

No one thinks it could happen to them, including the person it happens to. There is no way to prove one will finish this sentence.

Faith allows us to go on. It doesn’t promise that we will. Faith is not the elimination but the tolerance of doubt.

The future is a hallucination of faith.

We fail to recognize miracles because they’re so common.
